Photo must be under 20 KB for an exam form? Resize it on your phone in 2 minutes
Exam and job portals ask for a photo between 10 KB and 50 KB. Here is how to hit the exact size without blurring your face.
Why the upload keeps failing
A phone photo is 2 to 5 MB. Portals for SSC, banking, railway and state exams usually want a passport photo between 20 KB and 50 KB and a signature under 20 KB. If the file is even 1 KB over, the form says 'file too large'.
Get the size right in four steps
- Crop the photo to passport shape first: face and shoulders, plain background. A smaller picture area makes it easier to reach a small file size.
- Open the Resize Image to KB tool and add the photo. It works inside your browser, so your picture is not uploaded anywhere.
- Type the target, for example 20 KB, and run it. The tool tries different quality levels until the file fits.
- Check the result at full size. Your face should still be sharp. If it looks blocky, ask for 30 KB and look at the form's real limit.
Dimensions matter as well as size
Many forms also ask for pixel sizes such as 200 x 230 or 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm. Resize first, then compress. If you compress first and resize after, the size changes again.
Common mistakes
- Renaming a .png file to .jpg does not convert it. Use a real converter.
- Taking a screenshot of the photo lowers quality for no reason.
- Compressing the same file again and again makes it worse. Always start from the original.
Signature photos
Sign on white paper with a black or blue pen, take the photo in daylight, crop tightly and use the same tool with a 10 KB or 20 KB target. The Signature Photo Resizer on the site is made for this.
